MARTHA’S VINEYARD MEDICAL TO EXPAND PRIMARY CARE ACCESS FOR ISLAND COMMUNITY
Martha’s Vineyard Medical — formerly known as Vineyard Medical Care — is entering a new era, with new leadership and a renewed commitment to expanding care, serving more patients, and creating more local jobs. Despite the changes, the practice remains steadfast in continuing to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care at its 364 State Road home.
“As a cornerstone of our Island’s health and well-being, we are proud to continue providing compassionate care to our primary care and walk-in patients — and we’re excited to expand access for a host of new patients,” said Medical Director Jim Butterick. “Primary care practices across the country are at a crossroads. We are choosing to expand and innovate in order to meet the growing needs of our community.”
When serial entrepreneur Jeff Levy learned the practice was at risk of closing, he knew the Island could not afford to lose such a vital healthcare resource. Leveraging his deep background in building startups, Levy stepped in with a vision: not just to save the practice, but to strengthen and grow it for the future.
“A healthy practice means a healthy Island,” said Levy. “With literally thousands of Islanders on primary care wait lists, the lack of healthcare is an existential threat. We are dedicated to extending our hours, hiring more healthcare professionals and offering more services, while continuing the practice’s long tradition of true patient-centered care.”
Martha’s Vineyard Medical will retain its entire current staff, including long-time MDs Gerry Yukevich, Kathleen Koehler and Bill Tsikitas, and has plans to hire two additional nurse practitioners as well as another physician’s assistant and medical assistant. Later this summer, the practice will begin to offer extended evening hours on Wednesdays and will open Saturday mornings.
For more than 40 years, the practice has been a trusted source of high-quality healthcare for Island residents and visitors alike — a legacy that Martha’s Vineyard Medical intends to carry forward for generations to come.
